US Hikers Test Common Sense Theory by Going For a Hike in Iran! And Surprise, They are Taken Captive!

Posted by Greenback Maniac on Aug 10, 2009

Tourist terrainSometimes you just have wonder what goes through some people’s minds.  We have been pondering that question today here at AmeriGobble in regards to the three Berkeley “geniuses” who thought it would be a great idea to go on a hike on the border of Iraq and Iran.  I mean, come on!

Then their friends say, well they weren’t there to bother Iran, just to study Iraq, as if their presence in the highly dangerous region was justified and a good idea.  I mean, come on people!  Iraq is a war zone, and Iran is not exactly inviting us over for dinner and drinks.  You’d think that someone might have told them this was not a very smart thing to do as they were planning their trip.

The real “you’ve got to be kidding” moment for this incident is that one would think these guys would have noticed what happened to the two American Journalist caught in North Korea just a few months back.  But, to no avail, their self righteous beliefs led them forward.  Saddle up the horse Bill! So, let’s all take note and plan our vacations and trips accordingly. I hear Hawaii is nice this time of year anyway.

Leave us a gobble and Let us know if these three hikers have left you as dumbfounded as it has us here at AmeriGobble.  I mean “You Have Got to be Kidding Me”.

What’s Up With All the Trash!

Posted by Sansizzle on Jul 23, 2009

trashI remember a time when every American felt a great civic pride about the city or town they called home.  Part of that pride meant keeping our cities clean. We had beautiful cities and towns and generally kept them pretty clean.  I don’t want to make it sound like I never saw any trash growing up in America, but there was definitely more of a sense of responsibility and personal duty regarding how our community and parks looked back then.

Today, as I walk the streets  to the local market and parks in my any town America, I am appalled by the amount of trash I see. And cans, glass bottles and plastic water bottles are just the beginning.  On any given day I will see a variety of furniture, mattresses, candy and food wrappers of every sort, oil cans, plastic bags, car batteries, cigarette butts, bottle caps and personal hygiene products I don’t even want to think about.  The other day I even saw 4 shopping carts that were filled with all kinds of trash in the local creek. The creek that the community just restored a few years back. Mind you that this was over a half of mile from the nearest shopping center yet less than 200 yards from a dumpster.

That’s what really bothers me the most, all the trash near an actual garbage can. That is absolutely ridiculous and there is no excuse for it. Have we as a society become so lazy that we can not even get up and go throw our garbage away?  As soon as one person litters, it’s like a free for all. Nobody cares after that first piece of trash.  It’s like a virus!  It just spreads.  I see garbage everywhere I look now and it seems to be getting worse.

Please join us at AmeriGobble and make a renewed commitment to keeping our communities clean of trash.  We have made it a point to pick up not just the recyclables we see when out and about, but also putting trash in the trash can. If we all picked up just one piece of trash, well, our communities would be clean. Plus, It makes you feel good, sets a good example and shows you care.  And all that the trash won’t end up in our lakes rivers and oceans as well!

The Crew comes First for this Captain!

captain

Captain Richard Phillips doesn’t just talk the talk, he walks the walk.  When the going got tough on the high seas near Somalia recently, Captain Richard Phillips put his life on the line to save his crew from a rabid band of modern day pirates.  After having his ship attacked, not only did the Captain and crew fight back, but the Captain offered himself as a hostage to the Pirates in order to save the lives of his crew.  Now, I don’t know what the captain manual says about situations like this, but making a decision like this with your life to save others is truly heroic.  We need more people like Captain Richard Phillips.

AmeriGobble  salutes you Captain!
