Here we go! This could get really interesting. President Obama’s Chinese tire tariff order is designed to protect American jobs, but will it just incite a trade war with our biggest trading partner? A tariff on Chinese tires seems good for the US, but in China it will likely lead to job loses. In response, the Chinese have filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization and has threatened tariffs of it’s own on American made car parts, poultry and possibly other American exports to China. At AmeriGobble we certainly like the idea of protecting American jobs by any means necessary, but if the US and China decide to keep imposing tariffs on each other will it really help or just cancel out the desired results and lead to a full blown trade war that helps neither nation whose economies depend so heavily on one another?
Fed Chief Ben Bernanke said today that ”the recession is very likely over at this point” and that he is confident that “comprehensive reform will be forthcoming”. However, we can already see the old argument that the free market works best when unregulated coming. Greed will never go away and the lobbyists, and the politicians beholden to them, are sure to put up a fight against stringent regulation. Some things never change. So, After Bernanke’s comments today and President Obama’s yesterday regarding reform, do you feel that congress can deliver the necessary legislation to reform our financial markets to prevent a recession of this magnitude again? And, do you think Wall Street will buy in, or resist?
Patrick Swayze has died from Cancer at age 57. He had many pieces of great work in his long career, including Ghost, Road House, Point Break and Dirty Dancing. What is your favorite Patrick Swayze moment or movie?
It seems like something always happens at the MTV Video Music Awards show to get us Gobbling and this year was no exception. In a “You’ve Got to be Kidding Me” moment, rapper Kanye West stormed the stage during country singing star Taylor Swifts acceptance speech, took the microphone from her and demeaned her victory by saying that Beyonce “had one the best videos of all time”. The classy Beyonce, looked shocked! Flabbergasted is probably more accurate though. After winning an award herself, Beyonce took the stage and gave the spotlight back to Swift in a a heartfelt and classy moment. But, unfortunately the damage was done and the show will most likely be remembered for his completely classless and egotistical interruption of Swift’s acceptance speech. So, just who does Kanye West think he is?
Today, One year after the collapse of Lehman Brothers that sent the financial world into chaos, President Obama will deliver a speech to Wall Street, but has anything really changed? Executives are still getting huge salaries and bonuses, many after being saved with taxpayer money. Have the lessons of this recession already been lost after the last round of, in some cases, obscene profits as many average American continue to struggle? Let us know if you feel Wall Street has changed or is it just business as usual?
After his “You Lie” outburst during President Obama’s speech on health care to a joint session of Congress, representative Joe Wilson R-SC is no longer just another anonymous member of the House of Representatives. He is now a front page politician, for better or worse, depending on your point of view. If his outburst somehow derails Presidents Obama health care reform goals, will he become the new voice and face of the GOP or is he already do to the extensive media coverage this is incident is receiving?
It is no secret that we at AmeriGobble, as well as millions of others, liked Paula Abdul on American idol. She was the perfect compliment to the pompous Simon Cowell. In fact, she was our favorite judge on American Idol. Anyway Paula’s departure left some pretty big shoes to fill on the AI judges panel and we were wondering if AI’s replacement for Paula, Ellen DeGeneres, was the right call. So, let us know what you think! Can Ellen DeGeneres fill Paula Abdul’s shoes on American Idol?
Most financial analysts, and so called experts, are saying that recession is, or is just about over, and that we will return to growth by the end of the year. The markets seem to agree with a rather large run up since the March lows, despite staggeringly high unemployment. But we are not interested in what they think, we are interested in what our fellow average Americans out on the street think. We at AmeriGobble think you know better. So, is the recession over?
Talk about a case of “Foot in Mouth” disease, South Carolina Republican Rep. Joe Wilson has got it bad! In what seemed like a surreal moment, his “YOU LIE” outburst during President Obama’s speech seems to have drawn the partisan lines in the sand over health care reform even deeper. Was President Obama’s speech and message to the nation overshadowed by Wilson’s outburst and will it derail further efforts on health care reform?
