In a world where weird and outrageous behavior often dominates the headlines and can actually become a source of income, B-baller Stephon Marbury has taken his internet webcam reality show to the next level. Of insanity that is!
While we at AmeriGobble were astonished by many of his antics, he is drawing an audience, much like a crowd gathering at accident scene. But hey, who’s to say, although he’s definitely strange with a big ego, that Marbury’s approach won’t become the hit he hopes it will. If he keeps eating Vaseline, more viewers just might tune in.
The problem with acting crazy on reality shows is that you must one-up yourself to keep the viewer interested and we are not sure how much more “crazy” Starbury can deliver, without actually hurting himself! If this fails for Starbury, maybe he can join the “Jackass” crew if they ever do another movie. If, however, he is successful and doesn‘t end up in a mental institution, AmeriGobble is prepared to nominate him for our “Crazy or Crazy like a Fox” section.
We are not sure that this is the real Marbury, or just an attempt to keep his name in the news to promote his clothing line. Either way he’s getting the publicity for his efforts, good or bad. But, hey, any PR is good PR as the old saying goes.
So we want to know if you have seen the Starbury show on the internet and what do you make of it? Please click on the comment button below and leave us a Gobble!
After President Obama’s relatively successful US-Russian Summit where he attempted to “reset” relations with Russia, VP Joe Biden’s recent remarks in a Wall Street Journal interview may have reset those relations right back to the cold war.
In the Wall Street Journal interview Biden boldly proclaimed “Russia has to make some very difficult, calculated decisions. They have a shrinking population base, they have a withering economy, they have a banking sector and structure that is not likely to be able to withstand the next 15 years, they’re in a situation where the world is changing before them and they’re clinging to something in the past that is not sustainable.” Wow Joe! Tell us how you really feel.
While VP Biden has a history of human based “Foot in Mouth” disease, we believe that this was a calculated move on Biden’s part to let Russia know that the US will not be pushovers while the Obama administration is in office. While President Bush had VP Dick “Shotgun” Cheney as his personal pitbull, perhaps Obama is giving Biden the role of “diplomatic enforcer”. Nobody messes with Joe right?
So we ask, were Joe Biden’s comments about Russia over the top, or was he right on the money to let Russia know that while we want to reset relations, the US will not be dictated to regarding policy? Click the comment button below and let us know what you think.
After a brief surge in consumer confidence following the recent historic lows in March of this year, consumers are again not feeling that confident about the economy. For the second straight month consumer confidence has slipped and it is easy to understand why. Jobs!
Why is there such a big disconnect between Wall Street and Main Street? After all, 70% of economy depends on consumer spending, so why does it seem that consumer data is being marginalized by Wall Street and economists.
At AmeriGobble we base our economic predictions based on two key pieces of data, unemployment and consumer confidence. Without positive data on these two fronts, we simply don’t see how the US economy can rebound positively in the short term. Of Course, AmeriGobble believes we will eventually see long term growth, but only when the Jobs come back.
Let’s face it, consumers are not going to spend if they are unemployed or if they fear they will become unemployed. And this, unfortunately is the status quo for the moment. Yet, economists keep predicting growth by the end of the year and rising unemployment as well. That is an oxymoron of astronomical proportions.
We are simply dumbfounded by this view and feel it is just another gimmick to keep the stock market surging so that those lucky enough to have money to invest will continue making money, while those who have to work for a living suffer.
Maybe you can help clarify this for us. Click on the comments button below and let us know what your predictions are. At AmeriGobble, we believe you more than the economists.
AmeriGobble’s favorite baseball player of all time, Ricky Henderson was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame this weekend and we salute him with a double gobble for a great speech and career.
In the most American of sports Rickey was perhaps the most “apple pie “ of players for all time and he proved it again this weekend. For a long time he was baseball. He wasn’t just the best lead off hitter of all time, he was the best baseball player for nearly two decades when he was in his prime. Of course he stole bases, a lot of bases, but he could hit for power or placement and he was an excellent outfielder. He knew the game.
The best part about Rickey, besides watching him play, was his passion for the game. It was visible in his sculpted, naturally built and maintained body, in his facial expressions at the plate and in his intensity on base. His head was always in the game. And then there was the colorful side of Rickey. Ricky wasn’t afraid to talk about Rickey and about how great Rickey thought that Rickey was. That was just Rickey being Rickey. He may have been the first celebrity to talk about themselves in the third person and it was absolutely perfect. Absolutely American! Absolutely Rickey!
In an era when steroids began to emerge and put a stain on baseball, let’s not forget what a real baseball player and winner looks like. Congrats Rickey. AmeriGobble salutes you!
Apparently North Korea feels like it has strengthened their hand enough in this high stakes international game of poker involving missiles and nuclear weapons to test an attempt at new dialog. Although Secretary of State Hillary Clinton feels the best forum discussing North Korea’s nuclear program is still the Six-Party talks, North Korea disagrees and would rather have a bilateral dialog with the United States.
What does this new, unexpected overture for dialog from North Korea mean. Have they turned the corner in their thinking? Are they tired of being isolated, or do they simply feel that they now hold the right cards of power to dictate negotiation with the US rather than being dictated to?
While any offer of dialog must be met with some skepticism, this may be the opportunity the US has been patiently waiting for to ease tensions with the North Koreans.
So, is this just a PR stunt from North Korea or are they serious about wanting meaningful dialog and negotiations? should the US negotiate directly with North Korea regarding their nuclear weapons program, or should we continue pushing the Six-Party talks that North Korea has rejected and perhaps lose this opportunity to ease tensions?
With the largest increase in new home sales for June in eight years, yes eight years, and a skyrocketing stock market, many economists are declaring this recession over. If they say so, it must true, right? Of course, these same economists couldn’t tell we were in a recession until almost a year after it started.
However, at AmeriGobble, we are not persuaded by this recent unprecedented turnaround in the economy and in the so called experts’ very optimistic sentiments these days. It almost seems like a kick in the gut to the record number of unemployed Americans who continue to lose their homes and livelihood.
While it is great that market has rebounded and home sales are up, it seems like the economists judge the economy strictly on home sales and the market, without looking at why. Is it any surprise home sales are up, with the 8K federal tax credit soon expiring and interest rates at unsustainably low levels. Is it any surprise that the market has jumped when TARP gave the financial institutions practically FREE, we can’t lose money to bet and speculate with. Is it any surprise company profits are looking good when they have cut their employees and expenses to the bone. Most of these profits were not revenue driven, but cost cutting driven.
What will happen to home sales when the tax credit expires and inflation again raises its ugly head, raising interest rates along with it? Although most of the current mortgages being approved are probably of the 30 year fixed type, AmeriGobble wonders who will be the next round of homebuyers when interest rates inevitably rise and there is no more tax credit to lure potential buyers. When home sales, and the market, and company profits increase without the economic gimmicks, Amerigobble will declare this recession over.
Any economy that is running on bailout money and Federal stimulus money and cost cutting is not an economy that is out of recession. Didn’t our VP just say that everyone, including the Obama Administration, underestimated the depth economic turmoil a few weeks ago? Again, We are not persuaded.
So let’s take this recent good news and move forward with some skeptical optimism, and not believe what the economists and politicians who didn’t see this mess coming say, when they declare the recession is over. It is over when our neighbors, friends, colleagues and fellow everyday Americans start gaining meaningful employment and stop losing their homes. Only then will it be over!
Island hopping British singer Amy Winehouse is a piece of work. At AmeriGobble, we can only laugh over here on this side of the pond as Amy continues to show that she has got to be one of strangest celebrities to come along in a long time. Strange in a funny and yet, painful way. Her antics are becoming so legendary that she doesn’t even need to release any new music to stay in the news. Too bad, because she is a talented musician.
Anyway, her latest trial for assault has got us gobbling here at AmeriGobble! While she hasn’t shown her musical creativity in sometime, Winehouse sure has the creative juices flowing.
Who else but Amy could convince a judge that any contact with the fan was accidental and that she didn’t hit the victim intentionally because she couldn’t have. Winehouse claims she is too short to have hit the taller woman. And, here is the beauty in her line of reasoning, or should we say creativity, it’s her Beehive, as in her Beehive hairdo, that makes her look big enough to actually hit someone who is 5’7”. But without the Beehive, well, she’s just not that big.
That’s her defense! It must have been an accident because she is too short to have hit a taller women, and dog gone it, the Beehive proves it. Only in Amy‘s world!
Anyway, the real funny part is, it worked! Apparently the judge was sidetracked or confused enough by the Beehive evidence that he couldn’t tell if the Winehouse punch was deliberate or not. And presto, Winehouse is now free to continue her antics, at least until the next punch. She better keep the Beehive just in case.
It has got to be tough to be President. Every word you say holds tremendous meaning and power. In a world where the press is looking to analyze your every move and word, it is imperative as President to sometimes bite your tongue, so to speak. While everyone has an opinion one way or the other, the President should speak evenly on hot topics like this and let the facts speak for themselves before commenting. A President is not a judge after all.
As it stands the now, President Obama inserted himself into this mess and is now the ringleader of the circus he helped create. He ignited the various participants in the case, the American people in general and of course, the media! All with one sentence at a press conference about healthcare reform. Now he is trying vigorously to clean it up, spending valuable time needed for the other pressing issues of the day. Aren’t we supposed to be talking about fixing healthcare or something.
The President’s words are powerful, and it looks like President Obama is learning just how powerful they can be. While we love to Gobble at AmeriGobble, it goes without saying that the best Gobble is often the one not Gobbled at all.
Did President Obama’s “acted stupidly” remark about the Cambridge Police Officer incite the circus that this controversy has become in the last few days?
As the economy continues to produce low inflation and high unemployment, it is an odd coincidence that a new increase to the Federal minimum wage will be implemented today. Congress passed the legislation 2 years ago and this is the third and final approved raise in minimum wage. Of course it is great that millions of hard working Americans will get a raise today, but as we have seen in the past raising the minimum wage can have adverse effects on those it seeks to help most.
Historically minimum wage increases don’t help those looking for work, primarily entry level work, and with millions of people unemployed this may make matters worse for them. With many retail and small business employers already strapped by the current economic conditions and cutting back on everything, it seems unlikely that they will be quick to add new employees, especially after seeing their current payroll expenses rise. Teens, who usually benefit the most from minimum wage increases, may have the toughest time of all as they are not only fighting high unemployment in their age group, but also competing with older unemployed professionals now willing to take on entry level jobs.
Although inflation is low right now, the battered American consumer may see some higher prices as a result of this wage hike, as it is an increase in the cost of doing business for employers and those costs are almost always passed on to the consumer. On the other hand though, there will now be billions of more dollars floating around in the hands of those who are more likely to spend it rather than save it, giving a boost to our economy. Thus, the paradox of minimum wage increases.
What do you think will be the impact of the Federal Minimum wage increase to $7.25 an hour?
I remember a time when every American felt a great civic pride about the city or town they called home. Part of that pride meant keeping our cities clean. We had beautiful cities and towns and generally kept them pretty clean. I don’t want to make it sound like I never saw any trash growing up in America, but there was definitely more of a sense of responsibility and personal duty regarding how our community and parks looked back then.
Today, as I walk the streets to the local market and parks in my any town America, I am appalled by the amount of trash I see. And cans, glass bottles and plastic water bottles are just the beginning. On any given day I will see a variety of furniture, mattresses, candy and food wrappers of every sort, oil cans, plastic bags, car batteries, cigarette butts, bottle caps and personal hygiene products I don’t even want to think about. The other day I even saw 4 shopping carts that were filled with all kinds of trash in the local creek. The creek that the community just restored a few years back. Mind you that this was over a half of mile from the nearest shopping center yet less than 200 yards from a dumpster.
That’s what really bothers me the most, all the trash near an actual garbage can. That is absolutely ridiculous and there is no excuse for it. Have we as a society become so lazy that we can not even get up and go throw our garbage away? As soon as one person litters, it’s like a free for all. Nobody cares after that first piece of trash. It’s like a virus! It just spreads. I see garbage everywhere I look now and it seems to be getting worse.
Please join us at AmeriGobble and make a renewed commitment to keeping our communities clean of trash. We have made it a point to pick up not just the recyclables we see when out and about, but also putting trash in the trash can. If we all picked up just one piece of trash, well, our communities would be clean. Plus, It makes you feel good, sets a good example and shows you care. And all that the trash won’t end up in our lakes rivers and oceans as well!
